Employers' organizations yesterday urged the government to immediately suspend an amnesty for 1.2 million undocumented workers, which began today.

This is because the measures being implemented to check illegal workers use the biometric system is incomplete and full of problems.

"The implementation of these measures both simultaneously is a task that is not able to run by the authorities," said Executive Director of the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF), Shamsuddin Bardan here today.

Shamsuddin said the registration of employees who are authorized to use existing biometric systems have too many problems and they need to be addressed immediately before the process can be completed.

To date only from the estimated 600,000 illegal workers were registered.
