People are advised to avoid using two cosmetic products from overseas that were found to contain a scheduled poison.
Senior Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Ministry of Health Malaysia, Datuk Eisah A. Rahman said the product called Derma-Rx Cream and Cream Arbutin-R-toxic hydroquinone and tretinoin.
"Pesticides can cause skin to peel off users, develop redness and discomfort and hypersensitivity to sunlight," he said in a press statement here today.
According to Eisah, users are at risk for skin cancer because of toxic hydroquinone can reduce the protection to the skin from ultraviolet rays.
"We also ordered the company responsible for the product, the DRX Aesthetic Pte. Ltd. to recall and stop sale immediately within 72 hours, "he said.
He added that the product is in breach of rules Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984 and the individuals involved can be fined up to RM50, 000 or imprisonment for 5 years, while the company will be fined up to RM100, 000.
